Ecuador Decrees a New State of Emergency in 6 Provinces

The Government extended the measure to the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena and El Oro.
The Government of Ecuador decreed on Thursday a new state of emergency that will take effect for 60 days in six provinces and two cantons of Ecuador.

The Government also extended the measure in response to the serious internal armed conflict and commotion to the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena and El Oro; as well as the Metropolitan District of Quito, in Pichincha and the Canton of Camilo Ponce Enríquez, from the province of Azuay.
The decision was taken to “strengthen the work of the Armed Forces and the National Police in order to defend the sovereignty and integrity of the State, public security and public order”.
The resolution contains a curfew in 20 locations, from 22H00 to 05H00 (local time), “persons circulating during the temporary hour of restriction will be placed under the orders of the competent authorities”.
In this regard, the statement stated that «the presidential decision is taken to strengthen the work of the Armed Forces and the National Police in order to defend the sovereignty and integrity of the State…».
President Noboa insisted on the existence of an armed internal conflict, regardless of whether the Constitutional Court ruled against this cause.
This executive decree detailed a sequence of violent events that occurred during September 2024 in the provinces where the state of emergency was declared.
